USA: Alter Cup Report

AHPC Have once again supplied our High Performance Catamarans for the US Multihull Championship (Alter Cup). This year the top catamaran sailors from the US were competing on our VIPER for the converted Champion of Champions title. AHPC reputation for producing high quality and high performance boats ensured and exciting and fair event for everyone involved.

AHPC where responsible for supplying 10 VIPERS to the 20 crews who where to compete on in a rotating style completion. Each boat competed in 18 races resulting in 180 races worth of maintenance. This meant there was no rest for the ground AHPC ground crew who had to service and maintain all these boats throughout the week. This was a great opportunity to give our product one of the most intense workouts available.

Of the 20 crews there were 9 females, including 2 female skippers and 6 youth sailors which included two full teams of youth sailors.  The youngest competitor was 11 with the oldest sailor approaching 60. This once again proves the true versatility of the VIPER. All reports are that every sailor enjoyed competing on these easy to handle high performance catamaran.

The response from the sailors on the performance of the VIPER has been fantastic. Glenn Holmes summed up the feeling of the crews from the bigger boats, “I was a bit skeptical at first, having never sailed a 16 foot boat with that kind of power but was surprised at how well the boat was balanced.” Winner of the event, John Casey said “When we first sailed out into the ocean for the event under spinnaker, I deliberately put the bow into a 4 foot wave pretty hard. The boat stood up, but I never felt she was going over. After that, we pressed it as hard as we could downwind and never felt out of control.”
