URGENT
It has recently come to our attention that it is possible for the diamond spreader arms to slip if the spinnaker halyard catches it during a hoist or during a rough capsize. This issue is with the Holt arms that have been standard equipment on out boat for some time now.
If the arms are out of alignment this can case the arm to collapse and the mast to break.
The solution is that ALL diamond wires should have a dab of epoxy on the diamond wires both above and below the spreader. TAPE is not suggested as it decays in the weather and easily slips. You should allow for a bit of play as the wires are tightened or loosened, but not more than 10mm is needed.
What this does is prevent the spreader being knocked out of line during a flip or during a hoist where the halyard wraps around the spreader and pulls it up.
All new boats will be coming from the factory with these additions. |
